Decorated Ceramic Plate Workshop

Our Decorated Ceramic Plate Workshop was held on Saturday, January 30th, from 2:00 - 3:30 PM. This workshop will invite attendees to learn and practice Edgar Miller's stylized hand-painted decorative designs on usable ceramic pieces.

Led by contemporary Chicago artist-designer, Sharon Bladholm, these workshops will teach attendees to follow in the footsteps of Miller's conceptual process from inspiration to realization. Attendees will have the opportunity of decorating up to four plates provided by the workshop, or bringing their own oven-safe and ceramic piece to paint. Using templates, stencils, design patterns, techniques, and a variety of unique Miller-made images, decorators will be able to colorfully use their imagination to create their own set of plates to take home. Each session will also include a brief seminar exploring examples of Miller's artistic ceramic pieces that were popular party-favors and gifts he would make for friends over the decades.

Come and spend a fun evening of learning and hands-on creative work. Light snacks and drinks will be provided during the workshop. This leisure workshop is perfect for craftwork beginners of all ages! All attendees will receive a portfolio of templates and patterns, and a link to purchase all necessary materials at home from Amazon.com.

Glass Tile Mosaic Workshop Series

Join us for our summer Glass-tile Mosaics Workshop series. This two-part workshop event will take place on consecutive Thursday evenings this June, 20th and 27th, both from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM. Tickets will register and cover your attendance for both dates. This series will highlight the artistic history, aesthetic, and technique of one of Edgar Miller's most iconic medium: tile mosaics.

Led by contemporary Chicago artist-designer, Sharon Bladholm, these workshops will allow attendees to learn and practice the process for cut-glass design and tile-work in the style of Edgar Miller. Attendees will select their own tile and cut their own stained glass during this workshop to create their own Miller-inspired fixed glass mosaic piece to make and take home. Each session will also include a brief seminar exploring examples of Miller's tile and mosaic art pieces that still decorate spaces like the handmade homes today.

Come and spend a fun evening of learning and hands-on crafting, exploring the aesthetic of tile mosaics. Light snacks and drinks will be provided during the workshop!

Partner Workshops with Art on Sedgwick

We are excited to announce our first official partnership with Art on Sedgwick, a Chicago-based neighborhood organization that provides extra curricular arts education to grade school students in our community 2018-2019 programming year. Together, Edgar Miller Legacy and Art on Sedgwick will be facilitating a program for students to learn about the history of Edgar Miller in and out of their classrooms. These burgeoning artists will join us for site tours of the Glasner Studio to see Miller’s work up close. Partial support for this program is being generously provided through a grant from the Old Town Triangle Association

This program will culminate in a Community Art Show on June 1st, 2018, where student artwork inspired by the program will be displayed. More information will be announced in our Spring 2018 newsletter!
