ABOUT

Edgar Miller Legacy hosted a live presentation, Mapping the Evolution of Edgar Miller's Graphic Design, on Wednesday, May 26th at 6:00PM CDT via Zoom. Miller’s graphic design work drew from influences as wide-ranging as early expressionism, Mexican muralism, traditional and folk artistry, and abstract modernism. In the early part of his career, Miller was commissioned to produce graphic designs for many major Chicago companies, including Marshall Field's, Carson Pirie Scott, and WGN Radio. As modernist design took hold through the 1930s, Miller's illustrative commissions went on to include works for the Brookfield Zoo, the Container Corporation of America, and Gutenberg Press. Throughout Miller's work from this period we see his artistic and technical prowess, and forward-thinking design ideas, at their most exceptional.

In this presentation, we will explore Edgar Miller's impeccable graphic design work throughout his lifelong catalog in a variety of media, and showcase the projects that followed along and influenced the trajectory of 20th century graphic design. This lecture will be presented by Jeff Kruse, Director of Operations of Edgar Miller Legacy and Executive Vice President of Chicago Art Deco Society; and Zac Bleicher, Executive Director of Edgar Miller Legacy.

Please enjoy the illustrated lecture video above, and explore dozens of individual pieces of Edgar Miller’s graphic design by viewing our virtual Timeless Modern exhibition at the link below.
