Artist-in-Residence

Loona Dae

Chicago-based singer, songwriter, producer and performer Loona Dae joined Edgar Miller Legacy in attending a residency in the fall of 2018. A formidable lyricist, Loona naturally blends influences of soul, jazz, and funk to produce a relaxed yet upbeat sound. Her songs elicit the feeling of heart-to-heart conversations and are at once both powerfully intimate yet immediately casual.

Loona found the Glasner Studio to be the perfect, sensual backdrop to cultivate her resonant sound. She found that she was most inspired by the ingenuity evident in MIller’s design, and the resourcefulness and industriousness that we know to be a cornerstone of Miller’s character as an artist. Drawing from stories of how Miller cultivated a talent for using any and all materials at his disposal, Loona came to a new found appreciation for large-scale artistic endeavors.

On December 9th, 2018, Loona showcased both new creative works while honing past favorites for acoustic renditions. Her time in residence culminated in an intimate, live performance, stripped down to highlight the sound properties of the space with bare vocals accompanied by acoustic guitar. Pieces that were showcased included “Runaway”, “Catch 22”, and “Bluebird”.

The above video includes those three songs from Loona's performance as well as highlights of her interview about her creative process and her experience at the Studio.

“Life at times may bind the mind.
What sets me free
Is the willingness to be.”

“People still want music to make them feel good; they want music to make them dance, and we should make music like that but we also have to spread the truth.“
